How to treat a hip joint

How to treat hip joints?

Hip joints are the largest joints in the human body, respectively, they have enormous loads. This is one of the main causes of frequent hip joint damage and development of deforming osteoarthritis( DOA).

Coxarthrosis can be treated in a conservative and surgical way. The operation is performed only in extreme cases, when all conservative methods proved ineffective. However, most patients want to do without a dangerous, traumatic and costly operation. It should be noted that most often this can be achieved by combining various therapeutic measures that will solve several therapeutic problems:

  • to relieve the patient of pain;
  • to establish metabolic processes inside the hip joint cartilage;
  • improve microcirculation in the tissues of the joint;
  • strengthen the muscular skeleton of the joint;
  • to increase joint mobility.

The effect of various methods on all these mechanisms and symptoms of arthrosis allows to achieve stabilization of the pathological process, cessation of its further development, and also relieve the person of pain and other signs of inflammation. It's impossible to cure arthrosis of the hip joints. Existing conservative methods can only stop the progression of the disease.

Pain in the hip joints
The hip joint often suffers from overloads, which results in various lesions of the

. Consider what treatments for this disease exist and which doctor will help in this.

Medical treatment

For the treatment of diseases of the hip joint medicines play far from the main role, but almost always with them treatment begins. The fact that drugs can quickly and effectively eliminate pain as the main sign of arthrosis, inflammation or other joint damage. As you know, a patient applies for help only if he has something to hurt, respectively, it is with medical therapy that the treatment program begins. Another important factor: most other and basic methods of treatment of coxarthrosis without surgery are allowed to use only outside the exacerbation of pathology. Therefore, you first need to get rid of the pain, and only then will other methods of treatment and prevention become available.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

The main representatives of drugs from this group that are used to treat hip diseases:

  • diclofenac,
  • indomethacin,
  • ketoprofen,
  • piroxicam,
  • meloxicam,
  • butadione,
  • nimesulide,
  • celecoxib.

It should be noted that these drugs are universal. They relieve pain and other signs of inflammation not only with coxarthrosis, but also with any other diseases of the hip joints, for example, with a bruise, with a pain syndrome associated with osteochondrosis, osteoporosis, they are also prescribed as an additional remedy for hip fractures, dislocations and dysplasia of componentsthe joint.

Doctors, and patients themselves, like to prescribe drugs from this group, because they quickly and effectively eliminate pain, are relatively safe and are sold without a prescription.

It's important to know! NSAIDs do not treat arthrosis, they only temporarily eliminate its main symptom - pain. Therefore, it is impossible to manage alone with anesthetic pills or injections, if you really want to get rid of the problem.

Chondroprotectors

In their composition, these drugs have 2 substances: chondroitin and glucosamine. They nourish the cartilaginous intraarticular tissue and help it withstand negative influences. Therefore, the use of chondroprotectors can slow or stop the progression of the disease, in contrast to NSAIDs.

Don
Dona - modern and efficient chondroprotector

Popular drugs on the pharmaceutical market:

  • Artra,
  • Dona,
  • Structum,
  • Chondrolon,
  • Elbona,
  • Chondroxide,
  • Teraflex.

A significant disadvantage of treatment with chondroprotectors is the duration of the therapeutic course, the lack of a rapid effect, the high cost of drugs and the insufficient evidence base for their effectiveness.

To get a positive result from taking chondroprotectors, it is necessary to undergo regular therapeutic courses( 1-2 times a year), which consist of 20-30 injections, and 2-3 months of taking the drugs inside. Only after this, it is possible to note the result in the form of a reduction in the frequency of exacerbations of arthrosis, improvement of mobility in the joint, and reduction of the severity of chronic pain.

Muscle relaxants

For the treatment of diseases of the hip joints apply midol and sirdalud. These drugs help to eliminate the spasm of the muscles that surround the damaged joint, which helps to reduce the intensity of pain. But they must be used with intelligence, because muscle spasm is a defensive reaction of the body to pathological changes in the joint. If you remove muscle tension, but do not take any measures to treat joints, such as exercise, stretching, etc., you can only damage and provoke even more damage to the joint structures.

Ointments and Gels

Also read: endoprosthetics Total hip arthroplasty

Unfortunately, such dosage forms are practically ineffective in cases of hip joint diseases, as they do not penetrate to the components of the joint through the skin and a thick ball of soft tissues. Therefore, as a separate method of treatment, they are not used, but in complex therapy can be prescribed.

The most commonly used are locally irritating ointments and gels( Finalgon, Apizarthron, Menovazine, etc.).They irritate the receptors of the skin, which leads to a "switching" of the mechanisms of pain and a decrease in its intensity in the joint, in addition, such drugs expand the blood capillaries and improve microcirculation.

Physiotherapy, massage and physiotherapy

It is important to know that not all types of gymnastic exercises are allowed for use in diseases of the hip joint. Therefore, a suitable complex of exercise therapy should be selected for you only by an expert, based on their condition of joints and general health.

There are a lot of author's methods for healing joints with the help of therapeutic gymnastics, for example, exercise therapy for Bubnovsky, joint exercises for Norbekov. But all of them have their testimony and prohibitions to practice. Therefore, in each case, you need to consult your doctor.

Physiotherapy
The complex of therapeutic exercises with coxarthrosis should be selected only by the specialist

Correctly chosen exercises allow to form an excellent muscular skeleton for the affected joint, which will support and protect it, improve mobility in the joint, which will help to get rid of pain and improve the whole organism. After you properly master all the necessary exercises, you can begin to study at home. LFK should enter your life in the same way as the habit of brushing your teeth. Only in this case it is possible to achieve positive results from the lessons.

It's important to remember! No patient suffering from coxarthrosis, dysplasia or other hip joint disease, will not be able to get rid of the symptoms of pathology without therapeutic gymnastics. This is the main way to treat such diseases.

Massage refers to additional therapeutic techniques. It allows you to improve local blood flow, make the muscles elastic, strengthen the ligaments. Much greater benefit of massage is in combination with the extension of the joints.

Physiotherapy procedures have low efficiency in relation to the hip joint, since it lies deep enough, and this does not allow the therapeutic effects to "get" to the damaged structures. Nevertheless, they are actively used in the complex treatment of coxarthrosis.

Hardware traction and post-isometric relaxation

The hardware traction makes it possible to dilute the articular ends of bones and thus reduce the load on articular surfaces covered with cartilaginous tissue. Extraction procedure is carried out on a special apparatus. The course consists of 10-15 sessions, which must be done every other day and alternated with a massage.

Postisometric relaxation is a relatively new therapy technique. It consists in stretching the muscles and ligaments of the joint by actively interacting the patient and the doctor.

Postisometric relaxation
Post-isometric relaxation

In conclusion, it should be noted that there are many more methods of treating hip joint pathology, but most of them have no proven effectiveness. Nevertheless, such methods as manual therapy, treatment with leeches, folk remedies, acupuncture and others are actively and very successfully used in treatment. Therefore, you should not drop your hands. If you are diagnosed with coxarthrosis, it is worth fighting for your health. In addition, for this there are many traditional and alternative methods.

  • Diet

Think whether you feel a slight pain in the groin when walking? Did you have a hip injury, not even a significant one, which you did not betray value and did not apply to a specialist about them? Do you have excess weight? If at least one of the above questions you answered positively - carefully read the article. You are at risk of suffering such a difficult and difficult to treat disease as arthrosis of the hip joint or coxarthrosis. The sooner his treatment begins, the more likely a favorable prognosis.

Coxarthrosis is a chronic pathology in which there is a disruption of nutrition and destruction of cartilaginous tissues with subsequent restriction of mobility in the hip joint. What are the causes and symptoms? How to treat this serious ailment? What is the diet shown, and how to balance your diet? These and other questions are answered in this article.

arthrosis of the hip joint

Causes of the disease

A number of factors can serve as the causes of coxarthrosis. Here are the main ones:

  • Hip joint injuries as a result of injuries or even micro-injuries, which, as a rule, are not given due importance.
  • Overload due to excess weight or occupation.
  • Hip joint infarction( aseptic necrosis or death of a part of the joint tissues), which can occur as a result of taking some drugs, severe stress, alcohol abuse.
  • Congenital anomaly of the hip joint.
  • Arthritis( inflammation of the joint).
  • Hormonal age changes.
  • Osteoporosis( pathological destruction of bone tissue).

Let us dwell on this common cause of the disease, as microtraumas, which rarely have obvious symptoms. Particularly attentive to the treatment of such is the approach of athletes and representatives of traumatic occupations. Untreated microtraumas of the thigh lead to the formation of arthrosis in 20% of cases of disease registration.

The next cause leading to the disease( from 10 to 20%) is the excessive load on the hip joint. This is both extra weight, and the need for daily, over a long period to travel long distances on foot, and the resumption of training for athletes until the complete cure of the previous injury. All this leads to the fact that the cartilage can not fully perform its functions and begins to gradually deteriorate.

Degrees of arthrosis and their symptoms

Arthrosis of the hip joint in its current has three degrees, each of which has its own distinctive features.

First degree of coxarthrosis

So, in a healthy joint, the ends of the bones are protected by a cartilaginous tissue and slide, covered with articular fluid. At the initial stage of the disease, the fluid loses its properties, becomes viscous and does not provide sufficient free movement. In the cartilaginous tissue, the first microcracks appear. Further, the pathology progresses, the cartilaginous tissue gradually becomes thinner, and replacement processes are included: single bone growths - osteophytes - appear on the site of the cartilage.

hip joint osteophytes

At 1 degree, the disease can be cured, but unfortunately, due to weakly expressed symptoms, the patient rarely consults a doctor at this time, and accordingly, does not receive adequate treatment. If walking pain occurs in the groin, extending to the leg, and after a short rest passes - you should immediately go through the examination.

Second degree

The second degree of the disease is characterized by active lesion of the cartilaginous tissue. It is even more refined, the narrowing of the lumen between the articular parts is seen on the x-ray, the number of osteophytes increases. Inflammation of the periosteum develops. Symptoms intensify: pains become intense and often occur at night, there is lameness( the patient is forced to use a cane).Upon examination, the doctor notes the dystrophy of the muscles on his leg.

Third degree

When the disease enters grade 3 - almost complete absence of cartilaginous tissue is noted. The pain is so intense that even strong painkillers do not help. Movement is completely limited. There is nothing to treat medicamentously, only endoprosthetics can help in this situation - the replacement of the hip joint with an artificial prosthesis.

Diagnosis

The basis for the treatment of any disease is correct and timely diagnosis, identifying the cause of the disease. Coxarthrosis is no exception. Moreover, with early diagnosis, if not completely cured, then significantly slow the development of the disease.

Diagnosis is established using X-rays - this is the most reliable method. All the rest - the collection of anamnesis, examination of the patient, determination of mobility of the joint - are only auxiliary.

Treatment with traditional medicine

It should be noted right away that treatment with medicamental methods is possible only for 1-2 degrees of the disease. The third degree assumes only operative treatment.

Cure arthrosis of the hip joint is almost impossible( without an operation of endoprosthetics), however, to suspend its course and alleviate the symptoms is quite realistic. For outpatient treatment,

  • painkillers,
  • anti-inflammatory drugs,
  • topically compresses with dimexid,
  • physiotherapy are used.

To treat ailment is necessary in a complex way, the use of one method( not counting the operation, of course) will not bring tangible results.

For the removal of muscle spasm with arthrosis, massage is used - it helps to improve blood supply to the affected area, and, consequently, nutrition of the joint. Conduct it both in a hospital and at home. It can be performed by a specialist, and it is possible to use techniques of self-massage of the hip, lower leg and partially low back. Massage is recommended to appoint after removal of acute symptoms and anti-inflammatory therapy - in combination with diet, therapeutic gymnastics, reception of chondoprotectors and physiotherapy.

An alternative to massage may be the use of muscle relaxants( medications that weaken muscle tone), but this increases the burden on the liver and kidneys.

Well-proven hydrokinetic therapy( massage in water).However, it requires special equipment, which is not in every clinic. At home, you can do vibrating massage with a mechanical or electric massager. In the postoperative period( with endoprosthetics of the third degree of arthrosis), massage is applied after the removal of stitches, and it can be performed only by a specialist in rehabilitation.

Home treatment

For the treatment of arthrosis of the hip joints of 1-2 degree at home, the following are shown:

  • water procedures,
  • self-massage,
  • application of various herbal doses,
  • compresses,
  • ointments,
  • tinctures( inside and outside).

Here is one and effective recipes. You will need honey and burdock root, previously dried and ground in a coffee grinder. Mix in equal proportions and take on an empty stomach 3 times a day for 15 gr.

Also folk medicine recommends the inclusion in the diet of various jellies, jellies and chillies - that is, dishes using gelatin.

However, to treat arthrosis only by means of folk methods is by no means impossible.

compress on the knee

Proper nutrition

The importance of a diet for arthrosis is difficult to overestimate, because to restore cartilage tissue the body needs a building material that can only be obtained with a balanced diet. The main task of the diet is to provide the body with proteins for building muscle mass and restoring cartilaginous tissue, reducing the weight of the patient and limiting the intake of salt in the body.

Key recommendations:

  • Eat enough animal protein: fish( except salted), poultry, beef.
  • Obligatory dairy products: cottage cheese, yogurt, ryazhenka.
  • Eliminate the sweet, floury.
  • Choose porridge on the water.
  • Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables a day( one serving - 100 grams, you can use as a side dish).
  • Eliminate alcohol, coffee, strong black tea.
  • Eat a little, but often.

The diet will reduce the load on the hip joints and provide them with everything necessary for tissue repair.

Remember that coxarthrosis is a serious disease. Treatment of arthrosis of the hip joints should only be complex, and completely rid of it only surgery. Take care of your body, do not start the disease, contact the doctor in a timely manner and do not self-medicate! Be healthy!

How to treat coxarthrosis( ostearthrosis) of the hip joint?

Coxarthrosis is a degenerative-dystrophic disease that occurs due to the defeat of cartilage of articular surfaces. If we are considering how to treat coxarthrosis, then first let's see what forms and stages this disease has, and what symptoms it accompanies.

Forms and stages of the disease

Generally distinguish between primary and secondary coxarthrosis. With the primary form of the disease, the cause of the onset of the disease is almost never established, so it is called idiopathic, i.e.one that appeared on its own. The secondary form of the disease develops as a result of an anomaly of development, disease or injury to the joint. It, in turn, has such forms:

  • post-traumatic;
  • aseptic necrosis of the femoral head;
  • dysplastic;
  • developed against rheumatoid arthritis.

The main stages of the disease

The severity of the symptoms distinguish 3 main stages of the development of this disease.

Disease affects hip joint

Stage 1 pains appear periodically after physical exertion and are usually localized in the hip area. Usually, such pain passes after rest. The mobility of the joint at this stage of the disease does not decrease, but on the roentgenogram small bony overgrowths become noticeable.

In the 2nd stage of the disease, the pains become more intense, and they can "give" to the groin or knee. At this stage, pain can appear even at a time when the person is at rest, and with motor loads, especially prolonged, there is noticeable lameness. On the roentgenogram is noticeable. That the bony growths increased slightly and became quite noticeable.

At the 3rd stage of the disease, the pains are already permanent and can disturb a person even in a dream. In this case, there is a sharp restriction of mobility in the joint, so the patient is forced to use a cane while driving.

Symptoms of the disease

The disease does not develop immediately, there is a gradual development. In particular, in the early stages of the disease is barely noticeable, a person can feel only some pain in the aching hip or in the groin. In the future, the mobility of the hip joint is increasingly limited, and pain is aggravated. In this case, there may be exacerbations after unsuccessful movement or heavy physical exertion.

One of the symptoms is also stiffness and stiffness of the hip joint, for example, it becomes a big problem to pull up the leg to the stomach or take it to the side. A little later in the affected joint there is a crunch when walking, the aching leg is somewhat shortened, resulting in lameness.

If you notice such symptoms and think which doctor is treating coxarthrosis, then you need to contact an orthopedist and a rheumatologist, although in some cases you will need help from other doctors.

The main tasks in the treatment of

When a person thinks about how to treat coxarthrosis of the hip joint, he should understand that there is no one standard mechanism of the disease, therefore the treatment takes a symptomatic character. The main goal of the treatment is to reduce the disruption of the musculoskeletal system and the elimination of pain.

LFK for osteoarthritis

LFK in ostearthrosis

When choosing a treatment, also take into account at what stage the disease is, what the general condition of the patient is and what his age is. Treatment should be comprehensive and set a goal to normalize the patient's well-being. The obligatory component of the treatment is physiotherapy.

In the diagnosis of coxarthrosis of the hip joint, surgery can be prescribed only if the patient is at the last stage of the disease. The operation is designed to maintain or resume mobility in the affected joint( most often by endoprosthetics).

Usually,

  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed. It should be noted that such drugs are not able to reverse the changes occurring in the joint, but due to the removal of the inflammation, the pain is eased or disappears, which is very important in the late stages of the disease;
  • vasodilator preparations. Their use should help to relieve the painful muscle spasm around the joint;
  • muscle relaxants, which also should help to remove muscle spasm and improve blood filling of the affected joint;
  • chondroprotectors. Such drugs are used to restore the cartilage tissue of the joint;
  • physiotherapy procedures. The task of this method is to improve the functioning of the joint. This effect can be achieved by improving blood supply and reducing the severity of inflammatory phenomena;
  • joint traction;
  • orthopedic treatment, which is aimed at reducing the burden on the joint and the removal of contractures of the joint.

Also for this disease the doctor can recommend exercises that you can see on the video below:

Also, about what exercises you need to perform with ostearthrosis, you can read on this page.

Do not forget that in no case do you need to self-medicate! Before performing any exercise, be sure to consult your doctor!

Treatment of the disease at stages 1 and 2 of the development of

. At this stage, treatment should ensure the elimination of pain syndrome and prevention of possible disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

During an exacerbation of the disease, it is recommended to reduce the load on the diseased limb( exclude heavy weights, running, long walking).If necessary, the patient needs to use an additional support during the movement( cane).Analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used to relieve pain.

If you are wondering where to treat such a disease at these stages, then the answer is simple - most often the treatment is done at home. The main condition - the implementation of all the recommendations of the doctor. Some medical compresses are recommended, in the absence of pain syndrome it is recommended to perform massage of the hip, joint and waist. To maintain and restore joint mobility, as well as strengthen muscles, patients are advised to perform special exercises, with a disease in the early stages of development is a very important point of treatment.

Treatment for the 3rd stage of the disease

If it is a question of how to treat coxarthrosis in 3 stages, it is worth noting that conservative therapies here already help a little. The only suggested procedures remain intra-articular injections of such drugs as arthroporon, for example, which is administered in a hospital. At the same time, it is necessary to carry out activities that involve reducing the load on the joint.

The only really effective method of treatment with strongly pronounced clinical manifestations is surgical intervention. However, this method is quite effective at earlier stages of the disease( osteotomy of the hip with fixation of bone fragments).

In the third stage of the disease, the optimal solution is joint replacement. As a result of such an operation, the joint support functions of the joint are completely restored and pains disappear, so that a significant improvement in the quality of life of the patient is possible.

Treatment of arthrosis of the hip joint

Why arthrosis of the hip arises - this was said in the program "Your doctor": "

Treatment of

Treatment of arthrosis of the hip is quite possible at home, especially in the early stages of the disease. Of course, you must follow all the advice of traditional healers, and adhere to the principles of healthy eating. With a systemic approach, each person can help his body heal.

Classic massage

Often those who have arthrosis are diagnosed with classic massage. This therapeutic method is aimed at reducing stiffness and relieving muscle tension. Also, massage improves local blood circulation and the state of tissue perfusion.

Naturally, if you have arthrosis developed in the area of the femoral joint, then you need to massage the thighs( and especially the place where the joint is located).The duration of the procedure on each side is at least 20 minutes. When you massage, you need to use any cream or oil, but it is best to make massage oil yourself. To do this you will need the following ingredients:

If you have arthrosis of the hip joint, massage should be done every day until unpleasant symptoms disappear.

Cold hot compresses

Treatment with cold and hot compresses gives a tangible relief to people who have arthrosis. It is better to combine these two methods alternately. Warming and cooling muscles reduces pain, relaxes tissues, improves mobility of joints, causes anti-inflammatory effect.

Vegetable juices

A hunger diet based on vegetable juices gives remarkable results in the treatment of arthrosis of the hip joint. You can drink juice of carrots, celery or cabbage for a day( regular meals are forbidden on this day).The first week should be allocated one "hungry" day, the second week - two days( between these days there should be a break), in the third week - the day of the day( for example, Monday, Wednesday and Friday).Juices perfectly clean blood and joints, helping to treat arthrosis.

How and what to treat arthrosis of the hip joint

In addition, the primary arthrosis of the hip joint may manifest itself due to the age-related changes taking place in it.

Stages of development of arthrosis

Arthrosis of any part of the human skeleton, including the pelvis, first of all, manifests itself as severe pain. Their location, intensity and nature depend on the stage of development of the pathological process. Physicians distinguish three stages of the flow of arthrosis of the hip joint:

  • 1 stage. Painful sensations in the pelvic area appear after physical exertion, and after a rest quickly disappear. Pain can also radiate to the knee or thigh;
  • 2nd stage. Painful sensations become more intense and spread to the groin even during rest. The tonus of the muscles of the hip region deteriorates, the deformation of the joint is clearly traced on the x-ray;
  • 3rd stage. The pains acquire a permanent character, preventing the sick from sleeping at night. Pelvic movement in all directions is limited, the patient begins to limp and often uses a cane when walking.

It is important not to bring the pathological process to the final stage and turn to the orthopedist with the question of how to treat arthrosis of the hip joint, even at the first signs of pain syndrome.

The hip joint

The main task that specialists set themselves in the treatment of such a disease is to reduce the load on the joint and restore the tissues. The most effective way to reduce pressure on the hip bone is traction. The procedure of traction is carried out by a strictly attending physician who knows firsthand the structure of the body and how to treat arthrosis of the hip joint. This technique is carried out using manual therapy or a special device that pulls the joints, increasing the distance between them.

Exercises for arthrosis

Physiotherapy is another effective technique aimed at increasing the mobility of joints. Do it preferably daily several times a day. For the best effect, doctors advise combining exercise therapy with other methods of treating arthrosis. To restore the hip joint, static exercises are used that have a minimal bone load:

  • Lie on your back and lift one leg up, keeping the position for 3-5 minutes. Then change your legs;
  • Lie down on the floor with your stomach and take one leg to the side. Lock the position as far as possible;
  • Sit on a chair and pull the left limb forward parallel to the floor. After 2-3 minutes, return to the starting point and repeat the action with the other foot.

Folk treatment

Alternative methods have proven themselves in the issue, rather than treating the hip joint. However, they have a noticeable effect only in the early stages, with only a symptomatic effect on the affected joint. Check out some of them:

  • Compresses from cabbage. Leaf white cabbage mash, so he gave juice, and grease with buckwheat honey. Attach to a sore spot and fix with a bandage, leaving for the whole night;

Oil from celandine. A few fresh stems of celandine pour 1 liter of olive or sunflower oil without a smell, leave for 2 weeks in a warm place. In pain, rub the filtered oil in the affected joint.
