Gouty arthritis of the ankle

Gout is a disease of the joints, in the process of which accumulation of salt occurs. Gouty arthritis can affect the various joints of a person, for example;

  • manual or foot;
  • ulna;
  • knee joint;
  • ankle joint;
  • heel joint and not only.

Despite this, very common today is considered to be gouty arthritis of the ankle.

Description of Gout

A classic case of gout disease is characterized by acute pain that occurs in the area of the affected area. Painful sensations are of a periodic nature, that is, they can arise and disappear unexpectedly. Lack of timely treatment can lead to the fact that the pain will be permanent. What happens to the joint that struck gout?

It should be noted that this disease leads to the fact that the body significantly increases the percentage of uric acid. This in turn leads to the formation of salt and the accumulation of it in the joints, which is the result of pain, swelling and redness. The danger of such changes in the structure of the joint is due to the fact that with improper treatment it can collapse, and the salts accumulated there will spread to the approximate tissues.

Given all of the above, it follows that the earlier the treatment of gouty arthritis begins, the easier it is to get rid of it. Treatment should be the right and appointed specialist, only then it will help to avoid the negative impact of the disease on the body.

How to recognize the gout of the ankle

Sometimes a gout attack is called an attack, as it appears abruptly and is accompanied by severe pain. Very often, the exacerbation of this disease begins at night, the affected area begins to ache in the patient. It happens that people confuse gouty arthritis with other similar diseases, but it has distinctive features:

  • attack of this disease comes dramatically and very painful;
  • any touch to the damaged area is very painful and unpleasant;
  • presence in the body of increased concentration of uric acid.

Of course, to detect internal signs of gout it is necessary to carry out a diagnosis and to take a blood test, but external signs are also easy to recognize. Even the slightest touch to a site affected by gouty arthritis is accompanied by unbearable pain.

In addition, the affected area can swell and blush - these symptoms are a signal for immediate access to a specialist.

Causes of arthritic arthritis

The danger of gouty arthritis is that it has quite common causes of occurrence, so it affects every person. Of course, the main reason for its occurrence is considered to be a hereditary predisposition, but this is not all.

Even if a person has such a heredity, the disease may not occur if he will lead a healthy lifestyle and eat right. Most often, this disease is observed in people who abuse alcohol or use a lot of meat products.

There are many cases where an exacerbation of gouty arthritis occurs in the event of a power failure, for example, after a lavish feast or a picnic. It is the intake of fatty meat foods that can cause an attack of gouty arthritis of the ankle joint. But not only overeating, but also starvation can cause an exacerbation of the disease.

Given this, it can be concluded that any changes in human nutrition can trigger gout attacks. That is why proper and balanced nutrition is an integral part of the treatment of this disease.

How to determine the occurrence of arthritic arthritis

So, in order to start treatment of gouty arthritis in time and avoid the negative consequences of this disease, you need to pay attention to its symptoms, namely:

  • severe acute pain in the ankle;
  • swelling and swelling;
  • discoloration of the skin;
  • sensitivity to touch.

These symptoms are a clear sign of gout, but do not self-medicate, as diagnosis is necessary for an accurate diagnosis. Referring to a qualified specialist, the patient will be assigned an X-ray and a biochemical blood test.

Diagnosis of gout

Diagnosis of gout

Based on the results of these studies, it will be possible to determine the area and extent of joint damage, as well as the level of uric acid in the blood. Having defined these indicators, it is possible to prescribe a treatment that will be most effective and quick-acting.

How to treat arthritic ankle arthritis

Having performed all the necessary diagnostics and having made an accurate diagnosis, the doctor prescribes a course of treatment for a patient with gout. The first and main stage of treatment is the course of taking medications. Among the drugs prescribed for this disease are:

  • drugs that regulate urate metabolism;
  • uricodepressants;
  • uricosuric drugs and not only.

These drugs are aimed at stabilizing the body and contribute to the normalization of uric acid in the blood. As a result of their intake, the level of salt crystals decreases and, accordingly, joint work improves. At complex stages of the disease or during a period of exacerbation, a complex of these drugs is attributed.

It is very important to remember that the effectiveness of treatment depends primarily on its correctness, so the main thing is to follow the appointment of a doctor. Only a specialized doctor will be able to correctly assess the degree of the disease and choose the optimal dose of drugs for a particular case.

Given the fact that medications prescribed for gouty arthrosis in gouty arthrosis have a lot of contraindications and can not be used in case of other diseases, read the instructions carefully before using.

In addition to having to undergo a course of drug treatment, the patient must strictly follow the diet and, if necessary, make compresses.

Treatment of gouty arthrosis at home

As already mentioned, the diet is very important not only for the treatment of gouty arthrosis of the ankle joint, but also for the prevention of this disease. Together with the attending physician, the patient should accurately plan his diet and follow the doctor's recommendations.

There is a specific list of products that are strictly prohibited for this disease - meat and fish in any form, meat and fish by-products, mushrooms, chocolate, legumes, some sorts of cheese that have an elevated level of salt or pepper. In addition, to contraindicated include all spicy dishes, including marinades, as well as coffee, strong tea, cocoa and, finally, alcoholic beverages.

As for the permitted products, they include dietary meat, for example, rabbit or white chicken meat, eggs, all dairy products, except salty and spicy cheese, berries, fruits and vegetables, and seafood. That is, to prevent and treat gouty arthritis is to take more products of vegetable-milk origin.

In addition, it is recommended to use more liquid, except for that which is included in the number of harmful products.

Observing the rules of nutrition in the presence of gouty arthrosis, the patient can be sure that this disease does not catch him unawares, and sudden sharp pains will not disturb him.

Symptoms and treatment of gout

Gout is a disease that is the deposition of salt crystals in a variety of tissue formations, especially often in the joints. It is still unknown exactly what causes contribute to the formation of the disease. But it is known that the disease of gout is directly related to the excess formation of uric acid in the body."Disease of kings" can develop only if the body is unable to completely remove uric acid from the blood through the kidneys.

Clinical picture: what is this disease

What is this disease? Where does it come from?

What is this disease? Where does it come from? Mostly it affects only men. Women are only carriers of the disease. It is not for nothing that gout is a royal disease. Many centuries ago, famous male rulers died from it. There is also a secondary gout, which is characterized by a variety of disorders, such as leukemia or cancer. The use of diuretic drugs and aspirin can cause secondary gout.

What is gout? This disease, which forms in the joint synovial fluid crystals, leading to inflammatory processes. Often, these processes are accompanied by pain. Most gout affects one joint of the big toe. Inflammation of other joints is possible. Acute seizures last from 3 to 10 days if not started on time.

Manifestations of chronic type of disease act as permanent exacerbations, which lead to various joint disorders( sometimes it is fraught with gout arthrosis).Or, because of the large amount of uric acid in the kidneys, stones may appear, the process of deposition of salts begins in the skin. A well-known resource Wikipedia reports that such deposits are called gouty cones. Usually such nodes can be found in those who suffer from this disease for more than 10 years.

What are the symptoms and complications of the disease

The main symptoms of the disease include the following manifestations:

  1. The appearance of acute pain.
  2. Education of puffiness and redness of joints.

Puffiness is often called a bout of gout. The attack usually happens at night, when the joint warms and becomes the most susceptible to small touches. For the manifestation is also characterized by a very pressing pain in the joint. Signs of gout disease: education on the arms and legs of the growths . It can be noted that if the build-up explodes, then through the skin is visible the crystals of uric acid.

The main and serious complication of gout in the treatment is the formation of those very tofus and kidney stones. These small formations can be deposited all over the body, which complicates the situation. There are cases when such tofuy begin to get stuck in the joints, which leads to the formation of inflammatory processes. The fact is that such manifestations are for the body foreign bodies. Therefore, immunity begins to react, a large number of leukocytes is formed. This description is often called gouty arthritis. How to look tofy, you can see in the photo.

Note that the appearance of kidney stones due to gout can lead to kidney failure, which will result in death.

Causes of gout in men

Causes of gout in men

The cause of gout is a large amount of uric acid in the blood of a person. During the progression of the disease, intensive deposition of urate in various parts of the body begins. Sodium urate quickly turns into so-called crystals and is deposited in small joints in joints. Gradually, the crystals begin to destroy the joint.

A large number of uric acid in the body can appear only for 2 reasons:

  1. Healthy kidneys are unable to fully withdraw a large number of uric acid from the body.
  2. Uric acid is emitted in the right amount, but the kidneys can not produce even a small amount of it.

Every year the number of people who have this disease grows. Doctors explain this factor by the fact that in recent times people have been eating more and more food, which contains purines( meat, fatty fish), and drink a lot of alcohol. This fact confirms the appropriation of the disease status as "royal": earlier only to kings and people close to them, it was possible to consume a large amount of fatty foods, including meat. And ordinary citizens and military men, who were constantly on hikes, did not suffer from this disease, since they practically did not eat fatty foods.

What is the difference between arthrosis and gout

Some people confuse arthrosis with gout. It is worth noting that arthrosis and gout have similar symptoms and manifestations, even somewhere the definition coincides, but if you look at it, it's 2 absolutely different diseases. In both cases, the inflammatory process develops due to the formation of salts in the body. Therefore, the first time gout develops the same way as arthrosis.

To determine the disease of arthrosis or gout is rather difficult, because with joints there is no change. Only through the delivery of tests can accurately diagnose gout. Therefore, if a suspected pathology is suspected, the doctor sends a potential patient to donate blood for chemical analysis. Arthrosis is formed due to the presence of a variety of degenerative processes that occur in the joint itself and cartilage. They can get sick a person of a certain age, but of different ages, even young people. To prevent gout from striking you, you should stick to some preventative measures. They are very important, as they prevent further exacerbations and complications in the form of kidney stones. Consider what preventive measures must be followed by a person who is prone to gout.

Prevention of gout and treatment

What to eat with gout?

In most cases, the disease is formed in the area where the joint was prone to injury. Hence, these places need to be constantly monitored. Do not wear uncomfortable and narrow shoes, as it can have a negative effect on the toes. The main recommendations for the prevention of the disease are diet and proper nutrition.

It's worthwhile to revise the way of life. In food, do not over-eat protein foods. A large amount of protein is found in meat, fish, caviar and mushrooms, cauliflower. Balanced consumption of the right food will be the result of control over excess body weight, which will reduce the burden on the joints. Thus, gout attacks will not occur.

The treatment of gout is focused on controlling the amount of uric acid in the body. If you need medication, then you need to see a rheumatologist. All the medicines prescribed by him will be used to reduce the amount of uric acid and to rapidly remove it. But also the treatment implies the use of other drugs.

All of these products provoke excessive production of urea( uric acid) in the blood, which, over time, is converted to sodium urate salts. And these salts are poorly soluble. After reaching the critical level of urate sodium salts in the blood, they begin to settle in the joint cavities.

Microscopic crystals, which contains urea in their composition, begin to irritate the surface of the joints, which leads to the development of gouty attacks. But this does not happen immediately, but after a while. Over a very long period of time, urea salts can be found in the joint cavity and do not have any effect.

Accurate Diagnosis of

The most reliable test for the detection of gouty arthritis is the search for uric acid crystals in a sample of joint fluid obtained by joint puncture. Joint puncture is a routine medical procedure performed under local anesthesia.

Liquid from the inflamed joint is withdrawn using a syringe and needle, sterile technique( atmospheric).The laboratory analyzes the withdrawn liquid for the presence of crystals. Crystals of uric acid are best considered under a special microscope polarization filter.

Gouty arthritis symptoms

The first "signals" for the development of gout are short-lived. Inflammatory process, as a rule, occurs in the joints of the thumbs of the lower extremities. Less often, inflammatory foci are present in the elbow, ankle and knee joints. However, sometimes gout is accompanied by an inflammatory process that occurs in the heel and wrist tendons.

Symptomatic manifestations of gouty arthritis include:

  1. acute joint pain;
  2. hyperemia of the skin in the region of the joints. Sometimes the skin becomes crimson;
  3. joint swelling;
  4. increased body temperature in the lesions.

In addition to these symptoms of gouty arthritis, there is another unpleasant symptom - the deposition of sodium urate salts in the kidneys. This happens if the disease is in a neglected form. The consequence of this can be the formation of kidney stones and the development of pyelonephritis.

During gouty attack the patient feels unbearable pain even at insignificant touch the affected joint or at the slightest movement it.

A few days later, the attack stops and the patient feels fine. It seems to him that the attack was not at all. But over time, the symptoms of gouty attacks return, become more pronounced, and the intervals between them become shorter.

As a result, there comes a time when the intervals between attacks are practically absent, and the pain in the joint area does not stop. This condition experts call gouty arthritis, taking place in a chronic form. At this stage of the disease, irreversible destructive processes have already occurred in the cartilaginous tissue. Bone tissues also underwent destruction. They formed holes, where the crystals of sodium urate accumulated.

tophi on the ears

In some instances, gouty arthritis is accompanied by formation of small solid nodules( tophi), white under the skin. The usual places of their localization are the area of joints and auricles. Sometimes these nodules can erupt. Out of their cavity, sodium urates leave.

After a few days, the wound formed at the site of the nodule breaks, healing, leaving no visible traces on the skin.

Gouty Arthritis in Women

Worth Knowing!

Women, unlike men, are much less likely to develop gouty arthritis. His attacks occur in the fair sex is much softer. Symptomatology, as a rule, is weakly expressed and tofus are formed under the skin rarely.

In women, chronic gout proceeds in the form of a constant aching joint pain. It is extremely important that gouty arthritis is diagnosed by a competent specialist. Gout is different from arthrosis in that it is always accompanied by swelling in the area of the affected joint.

Gouty arthritis treatment

This disease is easily treatable. However, not everything is so easy, given that many patients find it difficult to accept conditions without which it is not possible to achieve success. First of all, it concerns the refusal to eat certain foods and alcohol. Some patients experience difficulties in abandoning their favorite treats and spirits. And this, in turn, becomes an important obstacle to a full recovery.

Diet for gouty arthritis

Well, if dieting is a temporary measure, which, after a certain time, your doctor may be canceled. In addition to these by-products, meat and meat broths, chocolate, wine, liquor and smoked, patients are not recommended to use:

Gout on the legs: Causes, symptoms, treatment and diet

Symptoms Usually, the first attack of gout are short-term. The attack almost always begins suddenly, and in most cases - at night. Usually the joint of the big toe is inflamed. Much more rarely exposed to inflammation thumbs, elbow, knee, ankle, wrist joints, calcaneal tendon.

During an attack a person experiences unbearable pain, the joint swells, the skin over it becomes hot and bright red. Strong pain is caused by even the slightest movement in the joint or an easy touch to it. The patient suffers a few days, after which the attack goes also suddenly, as it began.

Some time later, the pain repeats as suddenly. Moreover, while the intervals between attacks in the beginning of the disease are long enough - from one to seven months - and the duration of attacks is small, with time everything changes. Attacks are becoming more lengthy, and the intervals between them are short.

In the end, there comes a time when the pain becomes permanent, and the intervals between attacks are absent. This condition is called "chronic gouty arthritis" or "gouty status."In chronic gout articular cartilage is destroyed, and in the bones adjacent to it, special defects are formed, which are called "piercers"

Uric acid crystals can be deposited even under the skin, while forming solid white nodules filled with a gritty mass. They are called tofus, and in most cases they appear near the joints or on the auricles. Sometimes they break through, and then the crystals of urate sodium are released through the formed fistula. Rank after the breakthrough tofusa heals without consequences in a few days.

In addition to the above troubles, gouty arthritis, in particular - neglected, almost always leads to urolithiasis, since urate is deposited in the kidneys.

Very often, before a bout of gout, a person is nervous, he often changes his mood. In this state, appetite may disappear and pressure increase, in some cases heartburn and nausea develop, and stool changes are noted.

It should be noted that in women gouty arthritis proceeds much more easily. They rarely have gout attacks, piercers in bones and tophi are much less likely to form. In most cases, this disease manifests itself in female representatives with blurred chronic pain in the ankle or knee joint. In this case, to determine that this is gout, and not arthrosis, the doctor will be able only on the strong puffiness of the inflamed joint, which is not characteristic for arthrosis.

An accurate and timely diagnosis plays a significant role in the treatment of gouty arthritis, like any other disease. Naturally, the patient should be the first to notice the symptoms: when finding swollen joints, touching which causes painful sensations, it is necessary to consult a doctor without delay.

Diagnosis begins with an overall assessment of the clinical picture of gouty arthritis. If a rheumatologist suspects gout, he should refer the patient to a laboratory blood test, urinalysis, x-ray examination and ultrasound. The diagnosis is confirmed or refuted based on the results of these studies.

Treatment of

Methods of treating gouty arthritis can be different. The most common of these is drug treatment. In the detection of gouty arthritis, the doctor appoints the patient non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If the gout attacks are acute, the rheumatologist injects the drugs directly into the joint.

Injections are given once, but in some cases a second injection is required. In the case of multiple joints, the doctor prescribes non-steroid antibiotics in the form of tablets.

Sometimes you can alleviate the pain by applying ice to the affected joint, but if the pain is worse from the cold, use dry heat( for example, a warmer and a blanket).However, it should be noted that these funds are of a short-term nature, removing the symptoms of the disease only for a while.

Since salts on the joints of the thumbs are deposited due to delayed uric acid, the doctor can also prescribe medications to the patient that lower the level of the acid in the blood. Similar drugs for the treatment of gouty arthritis are also useful because they prevent the development of sand and stones in the kidneys and significantly reduce the risk of arthritis.

Among the modern ways to treat gout on the legs is to highlight the methods of physiotherapy. The affected joint is then subjected to electrophoresis. Electrical microcurrents are capable of destroying salt deposits and, in addition, they promote the excretion of sodium urate from the body. The most modern method today is the method of purifying blood with the help of special devices "plasmaphoresogemosorption".If the case is severe, it may be necessary to resort to surgical removal of the growths of the affected joint.

Among other things, in the treatment of gouty arthritis on the legs, doctors are working with patients to reduce the weight of the patient, as well as to treat diseases associated with metabolic disorders such as diabetes.

It is extremely undesirable to engage in self-medication with the use of decoction of various herbs and other methods of traditional medicine. Attempts to self-relieve the ailment can cause deterioration of the patient's condition, as well as cause side effects.

For gouty arthritis, the patient must adhere to a special diet. First of all, he needs to increase the amount of liquids drunk per day to three liters. You can drink as simple water, and various unsweetened compotes, fruit drinks, juices, teas. The mineral water also has a positive effect on the patient's condition.

Within the next year, the meat of young animals( veal, lamb), meat broths, soups, beef intakes, offal( brain, lungs, kidneys, liver), cold meat, mackerel, herring, sardines and alcohol should be excluded from the diet.

In addition, the consumption of mutton, beef, ham, poultry meat, sausages( especially liver sausage), pike perch, sprat, sprats, cod, champignons and ceps, beans, peas, cauliflower, radish, sorrel,spinach, lentils, asparagus, figs, coffee, cocoa, beer, oatmeal.

Meat and fish can be eaten no more than three times a day exclusively in boiled form.

Among other things, it is reasonable to limit the intake of salt, as the excessive amount of salt leads to a deterioration in the kidneys, and in fact with gout their work is already somewhat broken.

Massage also helps well, the husband says that the pain is now not as strong as before.

Gouty arthritis: treatment

Gout is a chronic disease that is based on a metabolic disorder: an increase in the synthesis of uric acid and its salts( urates).When a certain concentration of uric acid is reached in the blood, the body stops coping with its excretion through the kidneys, and this leads to the fact that the uric acid crystals begin to be deposited in organs and tissues.

As a rule, small joints of legs( joints of feet) suffer, less often - ankle and knee joints. Not so typical for gout, but still possible damage to the joints of the hands, wrist joints, elbow joint. In the affected joints, an inflammatory reaction begins, gouty arthritis develops.

Gouty Arthritis: Causes of

The causes of the development of the disease are not fully understood. It is well known that there is a genetic predisposition to the occurrence of gout, more often the disease affects men after 40 years, women suffer in the menopause.

An important role in the development of gout is played by nutrition: the abuse of alcohol, strong coffee and tea, the presence in the diet of a large number of meat products, chocolate - similar food addictions increase the likelihood of developing gout. Because for a long time this disease was also called the disease of aristocrats.

Symptoms of

It is customary to distinguish three periods during the course of the disease. The first one is latent. At this stage, you will not find any external symptoms. There is only an increase in the content of uric acid in the patient's blood( hyperuricemia), but outwardly this does not manifest itself, therefore at this phase the disease is most often not diagnosed.

The second period is acutely recurrent, or, in fact, a period during which the patient learns what acute gouty arthritis is. This is the stage on which the joints are affected. About what joints are affected, we have already said. To this it should be added that the most frequent localization of the process is the first plastne-phalangeal joint( this is the joint of the foot).

Gouty arthritis: the symptoms are as follows. Most often the lesion is asymmetric. The pain is strong, able to pin the patient to the bed. The skin above the affected joint is tense, cyanotic or purple, the joint is enlarged in volume. Very often at the beginning of the disease one joint is affected. Monoarthrosis is an important differential diagnostic sign of gout.

Gouty arthritis is often accompanied by symptoms of general intoxication caused by a high content of inflammatory mediators in the blood - there is chills, fever, weakness and general malaise. The diagnosis, as a rule, is not difficult to put. It is enough to take a blood test for the content of uric acid. Hyperuricemia will answer all questions.

The second period of the disease is characterized by attacks of gouty arthritis with long remission intervals - up to a year and even more. However, uric acid is present all the time in the body and does its black work. Because, over time, the process goes to the third stage - chronic gout. At this stage, gouty arthritis becomes chronic, and tofus are formed - deforming joints in the joints and tissues, the cause of which is the deposition of uric acid salts.

Gouty Arthritis: Treatment of

Features of the development and course of the disease will help us answer the question of how to treat gouty arthritis? We will distinguish three types of therapeutic effect - relief of inflammation in the joint, a decrease in the content of uric acid in the blood and tissues, diet.

The first stage is the coping of inflammation. In other words, directly treatment of gouty arthritis. This process is fairly simple and is carried out with the help of standard anti-inflammatory drugs( non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, glucocorticoid locally).However, there is a specific drug that is effective when gout is colchicine. The mechanism of action of colchicine is quite complex, but its principle is to reduce the content of inflammatory factors in the affected tissue. Effect - an attack of gouty arthritis is not 10 days, but only 2-3.

After we have removed the acute manifestations, we proceed to the second stage.

Gouty arthritis: treatment of the cause of the disease. Since uric acid and its salts are to blame for everything, our task with you is to reduce its content in the blood. For this, we have the right to use three groups of drugs: uricodepressive( allopurinol), uricosuric( probenecid, etc.) and uricolitic( uricosyme).

The first group is aimed at reducing the synthesis of uric acid, the second - to increase the excretion of uric acid by the kidneys, the third - to enhance the cleavage of urate in the body. You can combine drugs, however, you need to consider that with kidney damage, uricosuric drugs are contraindicated.

The treatment is long, and it will not be possible to help one tablets. It is important to supplement the therapy with auxiliary methods - ultraviolet irradiation of the joints, massage, exercise therapy and reflexology, but the most important thing is the strict implementation of all recommendations regarding the diet!

We did not in vain at the beginning of the article outline the list of products that potentiate the development of the disease. Diet for gouty arthritis is aimed at minimizing their presence on the patient's table. Meat can not be completely excluded, but its quantity can be reduced: it is enough to eat lean meat 2-3 times a week and only in a boiled form. Strong coffee, cocoa, chocolate and alcohol should be completely removed from the menu.

The diet should be widely represented dairy and plant products, and serious attention should be paid to the water regime: a patient with gout should drink up to 2.5 liters of alkaline liquid per day( alkaline mineral water, adding soda to drinking water).

With all the recommendations, it is possible to stop the process and prevent degradation of the articular apparatus.

Gout, arthritic joint arthritis: symptoms, possible causes and treatment( + folk methods)

Symptoms and signs

Urate salts can selectively accumulate in synovial capsules and fill fluid. Then the crystals of salts fall into the tissues of the hyaline cartilage and bones, where they are able to form knots( tophi).Inflammation, hyperemia and pain syndrome are added as a result of irritation of tissues with salts penetrating them and the immune system response to this implantation.

A distinctive feature of attacks of gouty arthritis is short-term, suddenness and soreness;In rare cases, itching, burning in the joints, fever, or chills can occur.

Joints of the foot are often affected, especially the interphalangeal, shank and knee, elbows, while swelling;the skin in the joints area turns red, sometimes - to a purple color, it becomes hot.

The pain can be so strong that it leads to the impossibility of touching the body or committing movements.

For a few days, acute gouty arthritis spontaneously reduces the severity of symptoms until a complete lack of discomfort. The following symptoms of can then be observed:

  • recurrence of seizures with increasingly shorter intervals;
  • increase in the duration of exacerbations;
  • formation of tophi in the joint area, as well as cavities in the bone tissue filled with salts;
  • piercing tophus through the skin;
  • development of a chronic form of arthritis, accompanied by the destruction of hyaline cartilage.

In the chronic stage of , the skin around the affected joints becomes coarser, flaky, often itchy. The mobility of the limbs is reduced, since cartilaginous and bone tissue undergo considerable deformation, as well as as a result of arthrosis of the joints.

Stages of development of

During the course of the illness, it is common to distinguish the following stages:

  1. Prodromal. During this period, the level of uric acid increases, the accumulation of salts in articular bags and tissues of bones and cartilage. Symptom, as a rule, is absent.
  2. Sharp. Characterized by attacks of severe pain, inflammation of the joints and adjacent tissues.
  3. Chronic. Tofuys are formed under the skin, recurrences of the disease occur more often as the effect of provoking factors.

Consequences of the disease

Accumulation of salts in the joints, bones and periarticular tissues is the primary manifestation of the disease.

As the gout develops, the deposition of urates is observed in the auricles, pads of the fingers and toes in the nose. Severe forms of the disease lead to the formation of accumulation of salts in the heart valves, larynx, arteries, genitals. Over time, tofuos calcify, causing additional difficulties in treatment. Often in the absence of adequate therapy , urate accumulation in the tissues of the kidneys ( gouty nephropathy) and the attachment of nephritis, nephrosclerosis.

An unfavorable prognosis for the patient is when developing gout at a young age of , with the presence of infections of the kidneys and bladder, hypertension, signs of heart failure, diabetes mellitus.

In the case of aggravation of these diseases by gouty arthritis, a lethal outcome in a short time due to renal or cardiovascular pathologies is possible.

Diagnosis of gouty arthritis

The main criteria for diagnosis when examining the patient are the specific signs of the illness( according to the patient's description and the clinical picture), and the presence of tofus in the joint region.

Laboratory testing methods include the synovial fluid study for the presence of urate salts , urinalysis and a biochemical blood test to estimate the concentration of uric acid. When carrying out the radiographic examination, unilateral changes in joints with signs of erosion, cysts, infiltration of salts into soft tissues, swelling are revealed.

Differential diagnosis is performed in comparison with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as other types of arthritis( reactive, infectious, etc.).

Treatment of arthritic arthritis
