In a house where people live more than 40 years, there must be a tonometer. With age-related changes, changes in blood pressure can be associated and to control it, this device is needed. But how to choose the best one?
There are 3 types - mechanical, semi-automatic and automatic.
The best is considered to be mechanical, because such a tonometer shows the most accurate patient pressure. But to use this option, you need two people - a patient and a person who will measure the pressure. Because it is very difficult for a patient to independently measure pressure in this way.
Automatic tonometers come in 2 types: wrist and shoulder. The air is pumped through the built-in compressor. The first one is used less often, since it is not suitable for all people and the accuracy of its measurements is not high, since the amplitude on the wrist is smaller. For people from 40 or 60 years of age it is virtually useless, because the vessels are in poor shape and can not clearly betray the oscillations. The second is more convenient, since the cuff provides a more accurate measurement of pressure. Elderly people can measure their own pressure without outside help.
Semi-automatic suitable for all ages. The air is pumped using a pear, and the result is displayed on the electronic display.
The advantage of automatic and semi-automatic tonometers is the ease of use and the fact that it shows not only pressure, but also the heart rate, which can be useful in some cases. Some of them are able to store measurement data and then compare these results. Also, the tonometers can be equipped with a clock, a timer and a battery saving system.
The disadvantage of these tonometers is that they work on batteries and must be watched so that they do not sit down. Otherwise, the device may be disconnected at the most inopportune moment. Also, the cause of the error of their work may be the work of a sensor, which is very sensitive to changes in air pressure, even if there was a contraction of muscles as a result of the conversation.
The accuracy of each of the tonometers depends only on the person who uses it, so it is impossible to say exactly which one is more accurate. It is best to choose a tonometer based on the one for whom it is designed and whether it is possible to measure the pressure not yourself. Therefore, before buying, you need to think through everything and consult the seller.
