What should be the diet for gout
What should be the diet for gout? Gout is a disease associated with impaired urine metabolism in the body of a sick person, which in turn is associated with increased uronic acid salts in the joints, cartilage, connective, bone tissues, etc. This disease is a chronic component of the body, its development is determined by excessive useproducts rich in purines. Particularly it is possible to note meat - it contains many purines, and if you consume it in large quantities, it will have a bad effect on your health. In women, gout disease can develop in the menopause. In some cases, gout develops slowly( gradually).Currently, gout is a fairly common disease.
Types of seizures and their complexity
The disease is accompanied by three types of seizures in terms of severity: easy, medium and heavy.
- Attacks of light severity are repeated no more than twice a year and capture two to three joints.
- Of moderate severity repeat three to five times a year, grip not more than four joints.
- Severe repeat more than five times a year and cause extensive joint deformities.
Manifestations of gout
First, small joints are affected, such as the joints of the fingers and toes, then the large ones: the knee, elbow and ankle. The disease itself manifests itself in the form of small edema and unpleasant painful sensations with mobility. After a short period of time, the joints begin to dehydrate due to the deposition of salts, and their thickening manifests, acute pains in the joints can also begin at the most inopportune moment, and their mobility becomes limited.
Recommendations for leg complications. With severe gout on the leg, treatment is as follows: you need to give complete rest to the patient, give an elevated position to the foot and put a pillow under it, preferably not very soft, since the leg will not be able to rest. Hard, too, is undesirable to apply: it can only bring deterioration of the foot and more swelling, which is contraindicated!
And if the leg is triggered and inflammatory reactions begin, it means that the patient needs to put a bubble with ice, and after the pain has passed, make a warming compress. If a person has gout, treatment is to observe proper nutrition. A diet is prescribed for arthrosis and copious fluids from two to three liters per day, alcohol in this case can be taken only at the stage of remission, and drinking is allowed not more than 50 grams of alcohol. Fruit juices, compote, milk, soft lemon juice, mineral water will benefit you! The diet for gout is also important: do not forget to eat foods that will not be able to cause you severe harm, or make up your personal menu, which is much better for your health.

Diet for gout
Gout is caused by a violation of the exchange of purine bases that are nitrogenous compounds and proteins, resulting in an increased amount of uric acid in the body.
For a satisfactory state of health, a patient needs a diet for gout as one of the components of a comprehensive treatment. The disease manifests itself in middle-aged and older people and affects the joints of the fingers and toes, hands, elbows, knees, feet.

Gout - diet: allowed and forbidden productsIMPORTANT TO KNOW!Doctors are dumbfounded! The pain in the joints is FOREVER!Just before bedtime. .. Read on - & gt;
The factors leading to the development of gout are: inadequacy;lack of clean, fresh air and an unfavorable ecological situation;disturbed drinking regimen. But the most important factor is malnutrition. The disease, unfortunately, is incurable, but the condition can and should be stabilized with the help of a diet. By giving up a number of foods and eating other healthy foods, you can alleviate the symptoms of gout.
General principles of the diet for gout
Gout - symptoms, treatment and diet is an extensive field of medical research, which it is not difficult to familiarize with.
However, there is still a common perception that gout is a disease of glutton, and it is enough not to overeat, to give up fatty and fried foods, smoking and alcohol, then gout will recede. Alas, this is not entirely true.
When gout is almost the most important is the diet. Meals should be oriented at the same time each day. You need to eat 4 or 5 times without overeating , but without limiting yourself in nutrients. Excess weight is harmful, but it is also harmful and a sharp decrease in weight. Therefore, you need to monitor yourself, arranging unloading days as needed and do not eat high-calorie foods.
Gout: Prohibited Foods
The diet for gout is a temporary measure, it is a principle of nutrition, even a way of life based on taking care of one's health. First of all, in your diet, you must necessarily reduce consumption( or exclude altogether) those products that contain purines - compounds involved in the synthesis of uric acid. The daily norm of purines for gout is about 100-150 mg. In a healthy person, it is much higher - up to 800 mg of purines.
It's the food rich in purines that is forbidden for gout. To products with a high content of purines are:
- black tea( 2800 mg), coffee( 1200 mg), cocoa( 1,900 mg), chocolate( 620 mg);
- peas( 45 mg), beans( 44 mg), lentils( 70 mg), rice( 18 mg), oats( 30 mg);
- veal( 48 mg), beef( 40 mg), goose( 33 mg), low-fat pork( 70 mg), fat pork( 48 mg), liver( 95 mg), animal language( 55 mg);
- sardines( 120 mg), river fish( 48-54 mg), herring( 79 mg), sprats( 92 mg);
- spinach( 23 mg), asparagus( 14 mg).
Purines in black tea, cocoa and coffee do not split into uric acid. But they have diuretic properties, so they dehydrate the cell and thereby increase the concentration of uric acid. It is much more useful to drink a sweet compote. It is better to use sugar as a sweetener. Honey and gout are not the best combination. Honey contains oxalic acid, harmful for gout.
Harmful as salty, spicy food and alcoholic beverages. Vodka and gout are the most harmful combination, so alcohol should be banned. In liquor, many purines, in addition, vodka and other alcohol dehydrates the body and thereby increases the concentration of uric acid, which leads to intoxication of the body. Alcohol and gout - an mutually exclusive combination, even in the smallest doses.
Useful products for gout
Foods in which there are few purines, but in which a high content of substances useful to humans, are conditionally considered useful for gout.
You need to eat as many high-fiber foods as possible, which helps maintain normal weight. These can be cereals, whole grains, muesli or diet breads.
Another group of useful products - vegetables, fruits and nuts, containing essential vitamins C, E, A, D, as well as B group vitamins, various minerals, antioxidants( lycopene, polyphenols, anthocyanins). Antioxidants strengthen the body's immune properties , increase your ability to withstand various ailments.
When gout is useful not only vegetables, berries and fruits, but also a variety of greens( except sorrel): parsley, dill, coriander. They need to eat every day and a lot. Cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, pumpkin, melon, pineapple, watermelon, celery, strawberries, cranberries, black currants should be regularly on the gout table. In these fruits, there are few purines, but a lot of fiber, vitamins and "good" carbohydrates.
Gout: what you can eat
During periods of exacerbation of the disease, you should completely eliminate the consumption of meat and fish.
At such times it is useful to spend unloading days when full refusal of food is practiced, only juices, compotes and kissels, as well as alkaline mineral water and non-carbonated water purified by reverse osmosis technology, are used.
During the remission period, only low-fat dietary meats with low purine content should be eaten: white chicken fillet, turkey fillet, low-fat rabbit meat( legs).Cottage cheese and cheese do not contain purines( or contain them in an insignificant amount, for example, in cheese "Adyghe" only 0.4 mg), so they should be in the menu of gout. There are no purines in the egg whites, and there are very few of them in the yolk.
Tomatoes are one of the best foods in the diet for gout. Tomatoes and gout are the right combination: eating tomatoes, you can reduce the manifestations of this disease. Tomatoes contain a huge amount of B vitamins, while they include very little protein.
Gout: diet 6 classic
For the treatment of gout, many different diets have been developed that take into account the needs of gout in certain substances.
Diet No. 6 is the most common and easy-to-follow type of diet for people who have gout: nutrition with gout should comply with the requirements of this diet. The essence of diet number six is as follows:
- use a minimum of proteins( to limit the consumption of meat and legumes).Animal proteins should be half of the total;
- it is necessary to limit the amount of refractory fats( pork, beef, mutton, culinary);
- you need to eat melted butter and vegetable oils;
- significantly limit the consumption of products containing oxalic acid;
- it is impossible to eat broths( mushroom, fish, meat);
- if the kidney and heart without abnormalities, drink at least two liters of water per day;
- completely abandon the salt or tightly limit its amount( up to 1g per day).
In a diet with gout it is necessary to include products from soy, for example, cheese tofu. Soy contains substances that remove uric acid from the body. Garlic and gout are the recommended combination, since garlic is a source of a variety of vitamins, macronutrients, has antibacterial properties. Allicin in garlic lowers the percentage of bad cholesterol in a person and has anti-carcinogenic properties.
Gout: treatment with folk remedies
Diet for gout can be combined with treatment with various infusions, decoctions of medicinal plants. For example, you can make tea from black currant and cranberry leaves and wild rose berries, mixed in equal proportions.
With gout, the compositions made of chamomile, pineapple, the roots of the stone-lipped femur are very helpful. These broths are prepared from the calculation of 3 teaspoons of raw materials for 2 cups of boiling water. Take the medicine you need half the glass 2-4 times a day before meals.
Ginger drink is used as a folk remedy for gout. Preparation: 10-20 g of root rub and brew with a glass of boiling water. Take half a glass a day on an empty stomach. Ginger and gout are a good combination. The root of ginger has a useful property - it cleanses the body, removes toxins and toxins.
Infusion of leaves of grapes and juice from berries should be drunk at least once a day before breakfast. Eat fresh grapes, too, and gout will gradually go into remission. Also for the treatment of gout in folk medicine is used decoction of flax seeds. Preparation: 2 teaspoons of seeds insist 15 minutes in 3.5 cups of boiling water, filter and take inside on a tablespoon 4 times a day.
Switch completely to diet food - gout will begin to recede within a week. With the help of diet it is possible to avoid the intensification of gout symptoms, reduce the risk of deep development of this disease and improve the quality of one's life. It is important to take into account specific features of human health, its taste preferences. This approach will allow to achieve positive results in the treatment of a complex disease.
Diet for gout
Gout is one of the oldest diseases of mankind. Described for the first time by Hippocrates, it is often mentioned in medical and fiction literature for many centuries.
Gout is a chronic disease characterized by an increased concentration of uric acid in the blood, deposition of urate in tissues and clinically manifested most often by recurrent acute arthritis. The first attack of gout can develop at any age, but in most cases occurs between the ages of 40 and 50 years.
Increased uric acid level in the blood( hyperuricemia) is the main biochemical sign of gout, but nevertheless there is no strict correspondence between this indicator and the clinical manifestations of the disease. The appearance of clinical signs of gout is largely determined by the deposition of uric acid crystals in tissues, which depends not only on its concentration, but also on a number of other factors, many of which have not been adequately studied. Joint manifestations and changes in other organs and systems, in particular in the kidneys, are due to the direct action of urate crystals.
It is not right to identify hyperuricemia with gout. However, with severe hyperuricemia, the risk of gout is very high, and the harmful effect of uric acid on the kidneys and vascular system is also increased. In this regard, hyperuricemia itself( without gout) is sometimes an indication for treatment. Currently, the upper limit of the norm of the content of uric acid in the blood in men is 0.41 mol / l, and in women 0.35 mol / l.
Under normal conditions, the sources of uric acid formation in the body are purine substances introduced with food( food nucleic acids), cellular nucleoproteins and synthesis in the body of new purines from simple substances( glutamine, glycine, etc.) that are always in the body. The release of uric acid from the body occurs by dissolution in the intestines under the influence of intestinal bacteria.
Most often gout is a primary disease that is not associated with other diseases, which is hereditary. As a rule, in 1/3 of patients with gout there is a relative( mainly male), suffering from gout.25% of family members of gout patients have hyperuricemia. What causes an increase in the level of uric acid in the primary gout? First of all, this increase in the synthesis of endogenous purines( metabolic type of gout).It leads to hyperuricemia and impaired excretion of uric acid by the kidneys( kidney type of primary gout).
Knowing the type of disease allows you to choose the most suitable method for a particular patient using dietary and drug therapy. In 2-5% of cases, an increase in the level of uric acid may occur as a result of some diseases or the use of medicines. Thus, renal failure, myeloleukemia, anemia, myeloma, may be accompanied by hyperuricemia due to the breakdown of cell nuclei and enhanced catabolism( cleavage) of cellular nucleoproteins. Diuretics increase the level of uric acid, suppressing its secretion with tubules, mainly due to a decrease in the volume of extracellular fluid.
We will briefly dwell on the clinical picture of gout
The onset of gout is usually associated with a primary articular attack. The articular attack occurs suddenly, most often at night. The most typical is the appearance of pain in the joints of the first toes, which was the basis for the name of the disease: "gout" in Greek means "leg in a trap".The pain is accompanied by swelling, flushing, it is so strong that the patient is not able to tolerate the touch of even the sheets. Acute pain lasts from a few hours to 2-3 days and gradually subsides. At the end of 2 weeks, spontaneous pain disappears, pain remains when moving, due to residual edema. The swelling of the joint gradually disappears, and the movements in it are restored in full. After a different period of time, crises are repeated. Over the years, seizures become more frequent and severe, an increasing number of joints are affected. In most cases, it is not possible to identify the factors that provoke articular attacks. In some cases, the crisis can be triggered by abundant food intake or consumption of alcoholic beverages, as well as severe physical or mental stress, infection, and surgical intervention.
After 5-10 years after the first joint attack, some patients develop gouty nodules( tofusi), which indicates the transition of the disease to a chronic form. Nodules usually appear imperceptibly, but can inflame and cause severe pain. Their sizes are different: from a pinhead to an apple. In case of inflammation, tofus softening may occur and a fistula may form, through which a pulp-like mass is formed - urate crystals. Tofus are formed mainly in poorly vascularized tissues: on the auricles, in the elbow joint area, around the joints of the foot and hand. Joints and bones can be affected. Particularly important is the deposition of uric acid in the kidneys( gouty kidney, or gouty nephropathy).Uremia, heart failure and strokes associated with nephrogenic hypertension are the most common cause of death in patients with gout. Gouty nephropathy is a collective concept that includes the entire kidney pathology observed with gout. This tofusy in the kidney parenchyma( in 50% of patients), urate stones in the pelvis( in 10-20%).Both processes create conditions for infection of the urinary tract and the development of interstitial nephritis. In the future, sclerosis of glomeruli and shrinkage of the kidneys develop with the development of hypertension and renal failure.
Turning to the issue of dietary treatment of gout, it should be noted that at present gout is not considered a disease, the emergence of which is associated mainly with malnutrition. At the same time, the alimentary factor plays a definite role in the development of gout. This is confirmed by a higher incidence rate among people who consume large amounts of high-calorie foods with a predominance of products of animal origin;provoking effect of abundant, purine-rich meat fatty foods and alcoholic beverages on the onset of a gout attack;therapeutic effect of a diet with a small content of purines.
Treatment for gout is aimed at reducing the level of uric acid compounds, which is achieved, on the one hand, by the administration of drugs that inhibit the formation of uric acid and its salts in the body and enhance their excretion by the kidneys, and with another restriction of purines administered with food.
Foods rich in purine bases are sharply limited or excluded from the diet. These include offal( liver, kidneys, brains, tongue), meat of young animals and birds( veal, chicken), fatty meat and fish, smoked meat, herring, sprats, sardines, meat and fish broths. From vegetable products, fresh pods of beans, mushrooms, spinach, cauliflower are rich in purines. Contain purines also coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, yeast.
Milk and milk products, eggs, potatoes, most vegetables, bread, cereals, fruits and berries are poor in purines.
With gout without exacerbation, diet No. 6 is shown with a slight restriction of proteins, animal fats, a sharp restriction of purine-rich foods.
The chemical composition of diet No. 6( put on):
proteins 70-80 g( of which 50-60% are animals, mainly dairy), fats are 80-90 g( 30% of them are vegetable), carbohydrates are 400 g. Caloric content of the ration is 2700kcal. The salt of 6-7 g. It is necessary to have a sufficient amount of free liquid: 2 liters and more( in the absence of contraindications from the cardiovascular system).The liquid is introduced in the form of weak tea, mors, juices, alkaline mineral waters. Mode of nutrition: 4-5 times a day, in between drinking.
Recommended dishes and products
Poultry meat - low-fat, not more often 1-2 times a week, in a boiled form. We remind you that when cooking up to 50% of the purines contained in the products goes into the broth. Fish-low-fat varieties, 1-2 times a week, in a boiled form. Dairy products - milk, lactic acid drinks, cottage cheese, dishes from it, sour cream, cheese. Eggs - 1 egg per day in any cooking.
Fats - creamy, melted butter, vegetable oils. Cereals - in moderation, any.
Bread - wheat and rye, various flour products. Limit products from puff and dough.
Vegetables are among the allowed in all types. Limit salted and pickled.
Soups - dairy, fruit, vegetable( without peas, legumes, sorrel).Cold appetizers - salads from fresh vegetables, vinaigrettes, vegetable roe, squash, eggplant. Fruits, sweet dishes, sweets - any fruit and berries, fresh and in any culinary processing. Creams, milk jelly, marmalade, pastille, honey. Very good citrus fruits, especially lemons and grapefruit. Sauces and spices - on vegetable broth, tomato, sour, milk;citric acid, vanillin, cinnamon. Drinks - loose tea and coffee, juices, fruit drinks, kvass, broth of wild rose, alkaline mineral water. Prohibited: liver, kidneys, brains, tongue, meat of young animals;sausages, smoked products, canned food;oily, salty, smoked fish, canned fish;sharp, salted cheeses, beef, mutton, culinary fat;beans, mushrooms, sorrel, spinach, radish, Brussels and cauliflower;meat, fish, chicken, mushroom broth;raspberries, figs;chocolate, cocoa, strong tea and coffee. All alcoholic beverages are completely excluded.
All patients are recommended to spend 1 time a week unloading days, especially vegetable, dairy, fruit, curd, kefir. This creates an unloading of the various parties to the exchange who are interested in this disease.
However, although patients are shown contrasting unloading days, in no case can not appoint hungry days or recommend the holding of a course of curative fasting. Fasting already in the first days leads to an increase in the level of uric acid in the blood with the subsequent development of an attack of gout.
When combining gout with obesity, and this combination is very common, prescribe a diet number 8 with the restriction of meat and fish to 200-300 g per week and more frequent use of fasting days( 3-4 times a week).
