Muscle rheumatism symptoms and treatment

Symptoms, methods of treatment of muscular rheumatism

Muscle rheumatism is usually understood as a strong pain in muscles and joints. The disease is particularly susceptible to middle-aged people. Muscular rheumatism is accompanied not only by painful sensations, but also by the wear of the joints, inflammatory processes in the muscles, can cause rheumatic polymyalgia and other pathologies. However, modern medicine has a sufficient arsenal of funds that can significantly alleviate the condition of a sick person. The main thing is not to pull to the last, but at the first uncomfortable sensations to consult a specialist, get a diagnosis and start treatment.

Muscle rheumatism: forms of the disease

Rheumatism is associated with the process of destruction of muscle tissue. The disease is more susceptible to middle-aged and elderly people, more women. Usually the muscles of the following departments are affected:

  • of the cervical region;
  • lumbar region;
  • of the thoracic region;
  • shoulder section;
  • of the extremities( legs, arms).

There are 2 forms of muscular rheumatism:

  • acute;
  • is chronic.

Acute rheumatism lasts several days. It begins, as a rule, with a rise in temperature, which sometimes reaches 40 degrees. At the same time there is a strong soreness, a feeling of tension in the affected muscles, when probed, they turn out to be strongly compacted( rigid).In addition, there may be volatility, that is, a sharp change in the localization of pain from one muscle group to another. If the muscles of the lower extremities are affected, a person begins to limp sharply, to fall on a sick leg, the gait becomes constrained, tense. Over time, when the muscle warms up and develops a little, the pain can go away on its own. However, rheumatism is characterized by exacerbations and aggravation of the situation. Therefore, it is better to immediately consult a doctor, since in the absence of treatment, the disease from the acute stage often turns into a chronic one.

The chronic stage is different in that the symptoms persist for several weeks or even months. In this case, the patient's condition can then improve, then again become aggravated. Among the reasons provoking an exacerbation, the following are distinguished: a sharp change of weather or climate, drafts, hypothermia, high humidity, cold season, dampness, stress, nervous overexertion. If the disease is not treated at this stage, it can remain for life.

Muscle Inflammation:

Symptoms The main symptom of the disease is muscle pain( myalgia).In this case, pain can occur regardless of whether there is any effect on the muscle, and can appear precisely as a result of mechanical action( for example, when squeezing the muscle), while moving, in a certain position. The pains are more often blunt, aching in nature, sometimes patients complain of a pulling feeling in the muscle. Some patients characterize the experienced pain sensations as cutting, stitching, pinching, monotonous, some have a burning sensation.

muscle pain

Often the pain is observed not only in the affected muscle, but also in other places. For example, with rheumatism of the muscles of the cervical spine, pain can be given to the nape, ears, whiskey. Patients may complain that they have a sore neck as if it had blown. At the same time, neck movements are limited: a person can not fully turn his head to the left or to the right. With rheumatism of the lumbar muscles, the pain is not very intense, often aching, but with stretching muscles or contracting the pain becomes sharp. With rheumatism of the muscles of the thoracic region, a person can not breathe a full chest, the pain becomes sharp when inhaled and can be given to the scapula.

In addition to pain in the disease, there are other symptoms:

  • stiffness of movements in the area affected by rheumatism;
  • a pathological change in muscle tone( its decrease or increase);
  • change the appearance of the muscle( it atrophies, grows thin or, conversely, increases in volume, swells);
  • muscle loses its strength;
  • involuntary muscle contraction;
  • compaction, sometimes swelling of the diseased muscle;
  • sleep disorders( insomnia or superficial, intermittent sleep);
  • weakness and a sense of emaciation;
  • in case of damage to several groups of muscles can increase body temperature.

There can be violations not only physical, but also neurological. So, patients with rheumatism can become irritable, sensitive to stress, weak, quickly tired, suffer from headaches. All these criteria allow the doctor to put a preliminary diagnosis of rheumatic inflammation of the muscles when examining the patient.

Rheumatism: causes of

Possible causes of muscular rheumatism can be conditionally divided into 3 types:

  • organic;
  • psychological;
  • professional.

In turn, for organic reasons are the following factors:

  • infectious diseases( common cold, tonsillitis, tonsillitis, influenza, etc.);
  • chronic diseases( metabolic disorders, diabetes mellitus);
  • autoimmune disorders( scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis);
  • allergic reactions;
  • physical injuries, accompanied by a pain symptom;
  • physical exhaustion;
  • pathological changes in the central nervous system;
  • imbalance of the hormonal sphere.

For psychological reasons are the following factors:

  • mental trauma, stress, nervous disorders;
  • personal problems;
  • nervous overwork.

The psychological factor plays a special role. If for a long time a person experienced constant stress( for example, at work, in family relationships, personal problems, etc.), which adversely affected the general mood and well-being of a person( a person was in a state of depression, depression, depression),The likelihood that these psychogenic factors provoked the development of muscle rheumatism is very high.

The modern world demands from people an ever faster pace of life, more like a race. People are often forced to live against their own biorhythms inherent in nature. The result of this can be various sleep disorders: chronic insomnia, superficial sleep, lack of deep sleep - all these factors have the most negative impact on the entire human body and often cause muscle rheumatism. This is due to the fact that people who do not sleep well, do not stand out in the right volume of growth hormone, namely it is extremely important for strengthening tissues, including muscle.

Representatives of some professions, for whom he is a professional disease, are also susceptible to muscular rheumatism. The risk group includes drivers, pianists, violinists, that is those people whose activities are accompanied by regular action on a certain group of muscles.

Diagnosis: criteria for rheumatism

electroneuromyography in rheumatism

The doctor makes the final diagnosis based on a number of factors. First of all, these are complaints of the patient, with whom he consults a doctor for advice. The doctor is interested in such criteria of rheumatism as pain, duration, intensity, location of localization, and also character. In addition, it is important to gather information about the patient's chronic illnesses, which could provoke the development of the disease. Such an anamnesis helps to assess the patient's condition, it is irreplaceable in the diagnosis. It is very important not to make a mistake with the diagnosis, because there are many other diseases that occur with a very similar symptomatology. To make the correct diagnosis, in addition to subjective complaints of the patient, the doctor also includes other criteria and methods for diagnosing the disease:

  • electroneuromyography, which allows you to assess the state of the neuromuscular system, muscle and nerve activity;
  • general blood test( in particular, to exclude or confirm anemia);
  • blood test for hormones;
  • thyroid diagnostics;
  • analyzes for infectious diseases and diseases of the genitourinary system( endometriosis, inflammation of the bladder, tonsillitis, otitis, etc.);
  • assessment of the patient's psychological state;
  • diagnosis of concomitant diseases: diabetes mellitus, joint or coronary artery disease, which can accompany rheumatism( in this case, diagnosis of secondary fibromyalgia, which often occurs in the elderly).

Only complex diagnostics, often with the involvement of other narrow specialists, gives grounds for diagnosing and prescribing the correct treatment. In this case, the doctor approaches each patient strictly individually, taking into account such criteria as the age, sex of the patient, the causes and severity of the course of the disease, etc.

Methods of treating rheumatism

massage with rheumatism

It should be noted that there is no single method of treatment that would be effective against rheumatism,therefore, it is necessary to approach the solution of the problem in a complex manner. Modern medicine has the following methods of treatment.

Medication Approach

First of all, drug therapy begins with the appointment of antirheumatic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial drugs. Medicines should be prescribed exclusively by a doctor. Do not engage in self-medication and independently choose a pharmacy medicine. Preparations against rheumatism have a wide spectrum of action: they relieve acute pain, normalize body temperature, if it is increased, normalize blood counts. The drug treatment lasts a long time. If the cause of rheumatism is the infection( in particular, streptococcus), it is extremely important to eliminate its foci in the human body. Often rheumatism is accompanied by complicated dental granulomas, tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis, sinusitis, and the like. Effective antirheumatic therapy is impossible without active treatment of the underlying cause in the form of an infectious disease.

If the patient has sleep disorders, nervous disorders, psychological factors are present, the doctor can prescribe medications that help normalize sleep, mood. Such drugs are prescribed in the smallest doses.

Physiotherapy

The compressive and light warmers, hot cabinets, steam showers, hot air showers, etc., have a great therapeutic effect in the treatment of rheumatism. They are prescribed in both acute and chronic stages of the disease, because physioprocedures can significantly reduce pain and other unpleasant sensations.

Massage Therapy

Massage should be performed by a specialist who has experience with exactly patients with rheumatic patients, because the specificity of the effect on sick muscles with this massage differs from the usual.

Spa treatment

Sanatorium treatment is usually prescribed to patients who have been treated in a hospital. It is irreplaceable for those who suffer from a chronic form of the disease. It is important that the sanatorium is located as close as possible to the patient's permanent residence in order to avoid a sharp drop in the climate.

Psychological support of

This method includes counseling of a psychologist, participation in psychotherapeutic groups. The main goal is to teach a person to resist stress, relax. This is important for all patients regardless of the cause of the disease, because in all categories of patients without exception, psychological stress causes deterioration of the condition, exacerbation of the disease. In addition to psychological help, group meetings of people with the same diagnosis in a hospital environment are useful, where the doctor will tell you about the peculiarities of the disease, teach you how to live with him most fully, what to do in cases of exacerbation, etc. Patients on such sessions can share their experiences, fears, observations, which is also important for positive dynamics in the treatment process.

If the patient seeks help from a doctor at the beginning of the disease, he can be cured in a relatively short time, and rheumatism can pass without a trace.

Lifestyle of patients with rheumatism

regimen of the day for rheumatism

It is important for patients with rheumatism to follow a special way of life, regimen and diet.

  1. Mode. It is very important for patients with rheumatism to accustom their organism to the transition from cold to heat and vice versa. This can be achieved through hardening, which need to be dealt with gradually. To do this, perform a wipe: wet the towel with cold water and quickly pat all parts of the body, then dry it off. Begin with water at a temperature of 28 degrees and gradually lower to 17 degrees. Important and regular physical education.
  2. Therapeutic physical training. The most successful exercises for patients with rheumatism are walking with sticks or walking, biking, skiing, dancing( but not sporting), exercises in water( swimming, aqua aerobics).All exercises should be easy, smooth, not to cause unpleasant sensations and pain. To start classes you need in the room of physiotherapy exercises under the supervision of an experienced instructor.
  3. Special diet. The diet is designed in such a way that the body does not have a deficiency of vitamins and substances that are necessary for the construction of tissues and joints. Particular attention should be paid to protein and vitamin C. Thus, the diet should abound with vegetables, berries, fruits, herbs, legumes, cereals. But the consumption of table salt and fast carbohydrates in the form of flour products, potatoes and sugar must be limited.

All these measures together provide an excellent therapeutic effect, help to cure the disease or significantly improve the person's well-being.

Rheumatism - symptoms, signs and treatment of the disease

Rheumatism is an inflammatory disease that affects connective tissues and joints, with localization in the cardiovascular system.

The main conditions for the onset of this disease are streptococcal infections and genetic predisposition.

Recently, rheumatism in children has become more common. Symptoms of it are similar to those of an adult and depend on the form and the lesion that the disease bears.

In classification, modern medicine primarily distinguishes two phases of rheumatism: active( minimal, medium or maximum) and inactive.

Distinguish the disease and the localization of lesions during the active phase:

  1. Thus, rheumatic polyarthritis manifests itself 10-14 days after human infection with streptococcal infection. The patient again has a fever of the body, large joints( knee, ankle and elbow) become inflamed and very sore. Later, smaller joints become inflamed. Inflammation is temporary, after 10-12 days it disappears, but this does not mean that the person has recovered.
  2. Acute articular rheumatism can sometimes go into a chronic form.
  3. In case of a lesion of the heart, which can develop both in parallel with the polyarthritis, and without it, rheumatic heart disease occurs. Symptoms: weakness, shortness of breath, pain in the heart, palpitations.
  4. Small chorea - a lesion of the nervous system with rheumatism. Symptoms: increased excitability, twitching of limbs, grimaces.
  5. Muscular rheumatism arises in the defeat of muscle disease( pectoral muscles, lumbar or cervical, constant and volatile rheumatism).

The first symptoms of rheumatism in adults and in children usually appear 2 or 3 weeks after a streptococcal infection. The doctor should diagnose the disease, he must also prescribe an adequate treatment.

Symptoms of

Disease Joint pain is one of the earliest signs of rheumatoid arthritis. Signs of defeat rheumatism of the heart are less common, indicate a pronounced violations in this body. Rarely, the rheumatic nodules and annular rash may be even less common.

In severe cases, abdominal pain, kidney, lung, liver and other organs can occur. More often signs of rheumatism are asthenic manifestations: weakness, fatigue, lethargy, etc. They are especially characteristic for the onset of the disease.

Children, with their immature immune system, are more prone to complications in the form of rheumatism after streptococcal infections. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider the treatment of angina, pharyngitis or scarlet fever, in order to prevent the development of rheumatism.

Reasons for the appearance of rheumatism

As mentioned above, the main causes of rheumatism:

  1. Streptococcal infections( beta-hemolytic streptococcal bacteria A group start the disease).
  2. Genetic predisposition.

Both these factors play an important role in the development of the disease. The occurrence of rheumatism is associated with the presence of certain defects in the immune system. In the risk zone are also:

  • children aged 7 to 15 years;
  • people with frequent nasopharyngeal infections and recently had an acute streptococcal infection;
  • presence in the blood of the protein B-cell marker D8 / 17.

Immunity in people susceptible to rheumatism improperly identifies a bacterium streptococcus and attacks its own cells.

Treatment of

In no case should rheumatism be started, treatment should be prescribed correctly and on time. Timely detection and treatment of this disease will prevent the emergence of complex changes in immunogenesis and in connective tissues( heart disease, kidney, lung, liver).

At the first symptoms of acute rheumatism, it is necessary to comply with bed rest, and in some cases, hospitalization. Usually, drugs for the treatment of rheumatism use these:

  1. Anti-inflammatory and pain medications: aspirin, diclofenac, indomethacin;
  2. Antibiotics( eg, penicillin or ampicillin);
  3. Glucocorticoids( prednisolone, dexamethasone);
  4. Stimulating the immune response of the body preparations.

If the heart is affected, medications that stimulate the heart muscle are also used in treatment. Assign a special diet, in which there should be enough vitamins( especially vitamin C) and minerals.

Physiotherapeutic procedures are also shown: medicinal electrophoresis, heating by UHF lamps, infrared radiation.

Affected joints are treated with ointments, compresses, poultices, etc. Rheumatoid arthritis with early treatment will avoid joint and other tissue damage. If the disease is not cured on time, then the probability of developing disability is high.

Folk remedies for rheumatism

To ease the condition of the patient can be treated with folk remedies.

  1. For example, ointment is good for joint pain. He falls asleep in a bag of cloth, immersed in water and brought to a boil. Then squeeze and apply still hot to the affected joints. For compresses also use fresh steamed leaves of aspen or fresh potatoes.

Rheumatism - symptoms, treatment

Rheumatism - an inflammatory systemic lesion of connective tissue .Most often, this disease affects the locomotor apparatus, cardiovascular and nervous systems. The lesions of tendons, skin, kidneys, eyes and digestive organs are rare. The course of the disease is not limited to one episode. Primary attack of this disease occurs in children and young age. The more attacks of the disease, the heavier the consequences of rheumatism. The attack of rheumatism in children usually lasts at least two months.

Pathogenesis and causes of rheumatism

Epidemiological data, clinical observations, microbiological immunological and experimental studies indicate the association of the disease with streptococcal infection. Under the influence of streptococcus serological group A, the immune homeostasis of the human body is disrupted. If the balance between cellular and humoral immunity is disturbed, a group of lymphocytes is formed, which damages the connective tissue of various organs and systems of the body. Rheumatism can develop with regular supercooling, malnutrition, overfatigue.

Hereditary predisposition to this disease plays a huge role. In the so-called rheumatic families, the incidence is three times higher than in the usual population. The disease is inherited in a polygenic type. Usually, rheumatism primarily affects connective tissue structures of the microcirculatory bed, and later the process captures the connective tissue of the lungs, heart, joints, and liver. Treatment of rheumatism, begun in the initial stage of affection of connective tissue, can lead to a slowing or cessation of the development of the pathological process.

Symptoms of rheumatism

Isolate an acute phase of rheumatism, subacute, protracted, continuously recurring and latent( clinically asymptomatic).

Symptoms of rheumatism depend on the severity of proliferative, exudative phenomena, the degree of damage to the organs and systems of the patient, as well as on the time for seeking medical help. Symptoms of the disease also depend on which organs are affected by inflammation. Usually, the disease manifests itself after some time after recovery from sore throat caused by streptococcus. The main symptoms of rheumatism are arthritis( joint pain), fever, palpitations and chest pain due to cardiac inflammation( carditis).In this disease, uncontrollable muscle twitching can occur. On the skin may appear annular erythema( rash), and under the skin - small nodules. Nodules and rashes may be the only symptoms of rheumatism. Nodules are painless and disappear without treatment.

With rheumatism of the joints, sudden pain appears in one or in several joints at once. Joints become red, swollen and hot. Most often knee, ankle, elbow joints, wrists are affected. Sometimes hip, shoulder joints and small joints of feet and hands are affected. Simultaneously with the appearance of pain in the joints, the body temperature rises. Body temperature with rheumatism of the joints is then reduced, then rises again. Symptoms of rheumatism usually disappear within two weeks.

The rheumatic process can affect the myocardium, endocardium and pericardium. Rheumatism without pronounced cardiac changes is extremely rare. Inflammation of the outer shell of the heart can be accompanied by mild fatigue, the appearance of dyspnea, barking coughing, vomiting, nausea. Inflammation of the membrane sometimes leads to damage to the valves and rheumatic damage to the heart. Most often, the structure of the mitral valve is disturbed. Damage to the mitral valve is diagnosed by the characteristic heart noise. When the aperture of the mitral valve narrows, mitral stenosis develops.

Uncontrolled muscle twitching with rheumatism also begins gradually .Twitchings in the course of time become the character of unintentional fast chaotic movements. Such movements disappear during sleep. Rheumatism in children is more severe and acute than in adults. Uncontrolled jerking can last from four to eight months. That is why rheumatism in children strongly spoils the handwriting.

The course of the rheumatic process may be accompanied by indeterminate clinical symptoms( weakness, decreased physical activity, the appearance of mild dyspnea after overload, subfebrile or normal temperature, increased excitability, irritability and sleep disturbance).

Rheumatic lung disease is usually manifested by pleuropneumonia, pleurisy and pneumonia.

Treatment of rheumatism

In the treatment of rheumatism, a three-stage system is used. In the active phase of the disease, inpatient treatment with bed rest is provided throughout the month. In the future, treatment is provided in the local cardiorevmatology sanatorium. At the third stage, a dispensary observation of the patient's condition in the conditions of a polyclinic is carried out.

The complex treatment of rheumatism includes the use of physiotherapeutic procedures and medicines, as well as rational nutrition, providing for a dairy-vegetable diet with restriction of liquid and salt. Antibiotics ( penicillin preparations), potassium preparations( asparcam, panangin), diuretics( lasix, furosemide), cardiac glycosides( isolanide, digitoxin, corglyon, strophanthin-K) are indicated from medicines for rheumatism. In the treatment must include ascorutin( rutin) and ascorbic acid.
